I am a qualified integrative counsellor which simply means I draw on a number of schools of psychotherapeutic theory, according to the needs of my client. I have been in practicing for over ten years.  I am passionate about helping people in a safe and friendly environment, where together we can explore and understand your difficulties in a confidential and non-judgemental manner. I work in a way that takes into consideration how early life and experiences may be influencing you presently. My work is underpinned by developmental, relational and trauma informed approaches.

Counselling and psychotherapy can offer a unique experience, a reflective space away from the stresses of every day life allowing you to understand and connect to aspects of your life that may be causing you concern. This concern may be specific and the cause of distress known, such as a bereavement, relationship breakdown, it is also common not to know exactly why you feel the way you do and may be seeking therapy for more complex reasons that are harder to define.

Areas I work with:

I have experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds and of different ages (5yrs. +) and am interested in the following areas:

What happens in our first session?

During this session we look at what has brought you to therapy, I will listen carefully and also ask relevant questions to help understand and clarify what is going on for you. This first session is an opportunity to explore what you would like to get from therapy, what time frame you have in mind, and of course, if you would like to work with me.If you would like to proceed, we can then look at when we can meet – I offer weekly, 50-minute sessions both long and short term, online and in person.

My role is to work sensitively and attentively alongside you – listening, noticing what is happening with you and between us, using all my training, and intuition to reflect back what I pick up and to check this out with you. We will work together and at your pace. I’ll work with you to get a comprehensive understanding of your needs and utilise my skills and experience to find the right tools to help you get what you need. Whether you’re looking for a few sessions or would like longer term therapy, I’ll be able to create a completely bespoke approach

I’m aware this first step can feel daunting and you may feel apprehensive. This is totally normal. With that in mind if you have any questions or just feel unsure, drop me an email and we can arrange an initial free exploratory phone call to see if therapy is something you may like to explore.

Some of the specialist areas I work with

I work with clients who bring a variety of different emotional and psychological issues and have a special interest in working with:

I have a particular interest in working with parents of young children who are struggling with the day-to-day challenges; this may include complex issues and family relationships.

I am passionate about working with both children and young people, helping children and adolescents to explore the complexities of their world and become less reliant on behaviours that result from big feelings such as self-harm and suicidal ideation. Through an increased awareness of their internal world, they can better make sense on what is going on and find better coping methods and strategies to cope with distress. When appropriate working in conjunction with a parent, guardian can sometimes help the therapy to achieve the best outcome for the young person. Young people can sometimes struggle to engage in therapy or find it difficult to explain what they are experiencing. I work very creatively with this population to help them process and explore what is troubling them.
